Some sweet creations with a "Storybook" theme were entered in this year's at Central City Shopping Centre.
Judges spent hours sorting 53 entries in the annual competition, presented by Downtown ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Business Improvement Association (BIA).
This year the entries in seven categories include Harry Potter, Charlotte's Web, Snow White, Grinch and other themed creations.
From Dec. 6 to 15, contest winners and the rest of the entries are displayed on the second floor of the mall, outside the Winners stores.
Visitors can to vote for their favourites by donating to ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Christmas Bureau ($1 equals one vote). The entry with the most votes will win the People's Choice Award and a prize of $1,000, while runners-up receive $500.
Voting takes place until Dec. 15 at midnight on , where more photos are posted.
This year, Central City Shopping Centre will match every dollar donated to ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Christmas Bureau through Gingerbread Village voting.
"This project is a win-win for everyone," said Bonnie Burnside, BIA operations manager. "Schools, individuals and groups earn prize money for their creativity, visitors to the shopping centre enjoy the delightful sights and smells of gingerbread artistry, (and) the ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Christmas Bureau benefits from donations, helping provide gifts and food to families in need."
In 2024, more 2,300 families will receive support through ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Christmas Bureau, whose temporary Toy Depot is located at the old Canadian Tire store in Whalley, on King George Boulevard near 104 Avenue.
