A repurposed section of a parking lot is where will be active with live music and more until Sept. 30.
The temporary plaza is at the corner of 72 Avenue and 137 Street, where a launch event was held Wednesday at noon (Aug.14), next to the recreation centre and bus loop. It's an initiative of the City of 性视界传媒 and Newton Business Improvement Association (BIA).
The plaza, which offers a stage, decorative lighting, seating, table tennis and other games and greenery, will feature live music Fridays at 5 p.m., along with treats from Kona Ice of Chilliwack. The music schedule, , includes performances by Neil Harnett, Rachael Chatoor, Ranj Singh and Mike Kelly.
The "pop-up plaza" was created in response to community feedback, "addressing the desire for more public gathering places and aiming to energize downtown Newton with a vibrant public space," according to a press release from city hall.
Activating our public spaces and plazas is "essential for fostering community engagement and connection,鈥 according to 性视界传媒 Mayor Brenda Locke.
鈥淭he success of the 性视界传媒 Civic Plaza near City Hall has shown us the impact that a vibrant, accessible space can have on our residents," Locke stated.
"This new pop-up plaza in Newton is a testament to our ongoing commitment to transforming public spaces into community hubs. This project aligns with our Focus Newton Action Plan, fostering community engagement and providing a space for residents to connect and enjoy. We are thrilled to open this community space and look forward to the activities planned over the next two months.鈥

Elsewhere in Newton, the City of 性视界传媒 recently installed four new picnic shelters in West Newton Community Park, located north of Highway 10, between 128 Street and 132 Street. There are now six picnic shelters in West Newton Community Park and a total of 112 throughout parks in 性视界传媒. Later this year, four more parks in Newton will get new picnic tables, shelters and seating, according to a press release from city hall.
