The White Rock venue considered Canada’s hottest live recording theatre will sway to the sounds of The Crew on Nov. 29-30, concert dates that couldn't be more timely.
At , the local band's "yacht rock" will showcase songs made famous by Toto, Kenny Loggins, Chris Cross, Bob, Steely Dan, Pablo Cruise, Hall & Oates, Little River Band and more.
Starting that Friday (Nov. 29), those sounds will also be heard in HBO's new , in which Garret Price (who also directed Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage and the fabulous rock-band drama Daisy Jones & the Six) chronicles the rise of soft-rock in the 1970s and its unlikely rise again over the past decade.
I haven't watched the documentary but it's definitely a must-see for me, judging by the trailer posted on Youtube.
Yacht rock "is perfect sitting down dancing music," raves drummer/producer Questlove, of hip-hop band The Roots, in the two-minute clip.
Blue Frog boss Kelly Breaks will also be watching, at a time when he's not playing bass (and "cat herding") for The Crew, whose pair of shows there start at 7 p.m. The concerts will also feature Tim Porter (on guitar/vocals), Alex Whitaker (guitar/lead vocals), Tom Arntzen (keys and lead vocals), Ian Paxton (drums/vocals and JT Platt (sax and vocals). Friday's show will have Aimee Ayotte on lead vocals, and on Saturday night it's Catherine St.Germain's turn in the spotlight, Breaks reports.
The Crew has its own hype video on Youtube.
December concerts booked at Blue Frog include the return of Eagle Eyes in an Eagles-themed Christmas tribute, Valdy's Christmas Show, smooth-jazzers Steve Oliver and Cat Levan, and a Michael Bublé tribute called Jingle. .
