It's been a career-building year for , a ÐÔÊӽ紫ý-based musician/lyricist who signed with Warner Music's 91 North Records in May and is now Spotify Canada’s RADAR artist for the month of August.
Monthly, the streaming service picks one artist to take over the and have their own song selections included among songs they love, and it's Nattan's turn right now.
"Being on the top-50 RADAR in Canada feels great, especially for me representing a whole different language, my people, my culture," an excited Nattan said in a phone call from the U.K., where he's touring. "It just shows how diverse we are now, how our language, this music, is travelling globally."
Born and raised in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, Nattan was schooled at Princess Margaret Secondary before making his mark in the music world.
"ÐÔÊӽ紫ý is always where our heart is, that's home-base," Nattan underlined. "We've been working hard and even now, we're on the road, have been in the U.K. for about 10 days, in Amsterdam and also a festival in Norway in two days. Growing up in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, we never thought about coming to Oslo, you know. It's far away from home. It's crazy to see how far this sound has travelled around the world, different parts of the world we never imagined to be."
Back in 2021, Nattan wrote the lyrics for Umbrella, a big hit for Indian singer/actor Diljit Dosanjh, who in April packed BC Place Stadium with adoring fans for a landmark concert.
"We were there, and he gave us a shout-out," Nattan recalled. "Seeing that was so cool, seeing how this music has become so popular and filling a stadium because growing up, it wasn't like that. It's so amazing to see."
Nattan has Canadian tour plans of his own, possibly later this year. "Hopefully we announce that soon, after the international run we're on right now," he added.
In May, Nattan released his Facetime debut song for 91 North in a collaboration with Inderpal Moga, Miss Pooja and beats by Skyy (Mohit Kuma Bhardwaj). “This song is a duet between two lovers going back-and-forth via FaceTime through their ups and downs. In the end, they are together forever," Nattan said at the time. Directed by Basant Creations, the song's video can be found on Nattan's Youtube channel.
