Butt brings comedy to ÐÔÊӽ紫ý in Civic Theatres' next season of 25 concerts, shows

The annual entertainment series kicks off Sept. 21

"Corner Gas" comedian Brent Butt will tell jokes at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Arts Centre's Main Stage theatre on Oct. 12, 2024, in the next series of entertaining shows presented by ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Civic Theatres.

Tickets are now being sold for the just-announced  produced by ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Civic Theatres. 

For another year, the 25 shows again promise an entertaining mix of music, comedy and plays at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Arts Centre, Centre Stage at city hall and Clayton Community Centre.

The series kicks off Sept. 21 with , a free Culture Days event at the facility in Clayton, followed by another ÐÔÊӽ紫ý SPARK Stages show, the circus act By A Thread, at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Arts Centre's Main Stage on Oct. 5.

The laughs start Oct. 12 during first of three Comedy Series shows including Hot Flash Comedy with Syd Bosel (March 14) and No Worries If Not (May 9).

Concerts will be performed by folk-pop musician Jill Barber (Nov. 15), Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir in their annual pre-Christmas performance in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý (Dec. 3), local artists in another Music City Showcase (Feb. 8), the musica intima choral ensemble with guest Russell Wallace (Dec. 16), classical pianist Sarah Hagen doing Pictures at an Exhibition (May 10) and the folk music of Raine Hamilton String Trio (April 9).

Also planned are four more Coffee Concerts hosted by the piano-playing Bergmann Duo, staring Nov. 7 with a "Rhythm and Song"-themed performance.

The next Presentation Series includes the three Arts Club on Tour plays already announced, featuring the music of Johnny Cash (Ring of Fire, February/March 2025), a millennial take on Cyrano de Bergerac (Christine Quintana’s Someone Like You, January 2025) and a comedy about a couple coming to grips with their lacklustre sex life (Michelle Riml’s Sexy Laundry, opens Oct. 16).

The new Adventures in Theatre sub-series features the three shows of Roof, Shield Maiden and The Knitting Pilgrim on different dates in November, February and April. There's also a Holiday Series of three concerts in December and November.

For kids and families, next season's other SPARK Stages shows are Rat Academy, Frog Belly Rat Bone, Paper Playground and the "hip-hop ecology" of Magnetic North.

The series includes something for everyone, according to Kent Gallie, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý's manager of performing arts.

"With ÐÔÊӽ紫ý SPARK Stages there is exciting programming for children and families, in addition to a diverse lineup of critically acclaimed shows bound to inspire and entertain."
