Fernie musician will live on in memory through new album

Former Fernie musician died in a motor vehicle incident in October and her new album is being released posthumously

Nell Smith's family has announced that her latest album will be released next year (nellsmithmusic Instagram)

The creative talent and memory of Fernie musician Nell Smith will live on through her new album and a memorial fund to support emerging artists.

The 17-year-old musician's in October, prompted an outpouring of support from around the world.

Smith's family announced on Instagram that the album she was working on will be released posthumously next year through Bella Union records. The album was written with Shred Kelly and Penelope Isles, and produced in Brighton, England, with vocals recorded by Howard Redekopp on Vancouver Island.

Additionally, the family has created the  in her honour, to help young and upcoming talents in the music industry push past financial barriers as they pursue their dreams.

"The idea will be to support young people on their journey into the world of music. It's a tough road and any support that we can give to deserving kids will be worthwhile and something Nell would have loved," stated Smith's parents Jude and Rachel in an Instagram post

The fund is still in the early stages of development, and the family is still combing through some of the finer details and creating an advisory board. Donations to her page will go towards helping the first group of young music artists with grants.

There will be a few other ways that the public can honour her life. In an Instagram post, Jude and Rachel mentioned that they're developing a tattoo design in memory of Smith that people can have inked on their body or displayed in their house. They're also putting together a collection of merchandise that represents her.
