The longest winning streak of the season came crashing down for the Abbotsford Canucks in Palm Springs on Wednesday (Jan. 29) night.
The Canucks entered the third period up 2-1, but that lead quickly evaporated in the final frame as the team allowed four goals in five minutes and ultimately lost 5-2 to the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
Wednesday's game marked the end of an eight-game win streak that started back on Jan. 10.
After a scoreless first period, Jagger Firkus put the Firebirds up 1-0 at 8:03 with a power play goal, but the Canucks responded with goals from Erik Br盲nnstr枚m and Danila Klimovich to lead 2-1 after two.

Coachella's goal barrage opened the third period, with the Firebirds scoring twice on the power play and twice at even strength to stun the Canucks.
Penalty troubles haunted Abbotsford, as they received seven minor penalties and were burned three times while shorthanded. Firebirds forward Daniel Sprong, who started this season as a member of the Vancouver Canucks, had a goal and an assist for Coachella Valley.
Abbotsford outshot the Firebirds 30-29 and Klimovich led all players with six shots on goal. Klimovich now has 14 goals on the season and is approaching his single-season record of 17 set back in 2022-23.
Nikita Tolopilo made 24 saves in the loss, which was his first setback since Jan. 4.

The Canucks franchise record for a winning streak remains nine and was set in the 2021-22 season.
The team returns home for games against the Calgary Wranglers on Friday (Jan. 31) and Saturday (Feb. 1).
