With winter on its way and temperatures dipping close to zero overnight, White Rock's warming shelter is set to open Monday morning (Dec. 2) at 7 a.m.
At council's meeting Monday (Nov, 25), White Rock city on the progress of the facility, which "offers refuge to people experiencing homelessness during cold weather."
The city announced its opening on X over the weekend.
"Thank you to the volunteers who signed up to be a Warming Centre Park Ambassador," the city's X post reads.
"The city received 47 applications! Volunteers have undergone training and will help keep the area around the warming centre clean and welcoming."
Located at Centennial Park, 14600 North Bluff Rd., the centre will be open from Dec. 2 through March 15 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.. The site offers shelter from cold, wet weather as well as meals/snacks, mental health resources and counselling, the city's X post noted.
The post said the warming centre is operated by Lookout Housing and Health Society and Engaged Communities Canada Society, and funded by the City of White Rock.
