Human-trafficking expert to speak in South ÐÔÊӽ紫ý

Jan. 25 event to feature Cathy Peters

A woman described as "a force to be reckoned with" when it comes to educating people about the realities of human trafficking will share her message at an event Jan. 25 in South ÐÔÊӽ紫ý.

Set to speak at 10:30 a.m. in the Mount Olive Lutheran Church Hall, Cathy Peters was invited by the of the Canadian Federation of University Women.

Over the past 11 years, Peters has made more than 600 presentations on sex trafficking and sexual exploitation, sharing her message with government, school districts, police forces, church groups and more.

In 2021, she told White Rock council that more needs to be done to stop such incidences from happening in B.C.

It's "the fastest-growing crime in the world," Peters said at the time.

"And it's here."

Quoted on a poster promoting the upcoming event, Peters says youth, children, the vulnerable and marginalized "are aggressively targeted for sexual exploitation yet unaware of the insidious, coercive and manipulative tactics of the sex industry."

"As a society we have a moral obligation to address this exploitation immediately, resolutely and robustly."

The Jan. 25 presentation – part of CFUW's 'Conversations That Matter' – aims to inspire attendees "to think about what we can do to stop this growing crime" in Canada.

The church hall is located at 2350 148 St. Doors to the event open at 10 a.m.
