‘Food Truck Wars’ set for mid-April on Cloverdale Fairgrounds

4th annual food-battle fest to showcase 3 dozen food trucks

Food Trucks Wars is coming back to Cloverdale.

The fourth annual food battle will hit the Cloverdale Fairgrounds April 11-13.

Hosted by the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival, the family-friendly event promises B.C.’s largest mobile food competition, a vibrant community celebration, and hearty battles for food awards in several categories.

“The three-day event will feature over 35 carefully selected food trucks, an expanded B.C. Shop Local artisan marketplace featuring local vendors, scheduled live entertainment, a dedicated Kid Zone with family-friendly activities, an Event Pour Co. adult beverage garden featuring local craft breweries,” notes a press release from the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival.

Food trucks will battle for awards, and bragging rights in several categories, including: Best in Show, Best Meat Sweats, Best Sweet Treats, Best Plant Based, Best Between Buns, Best International/Fusion. The trucks will also be in the running for the People's Choice award.

Jason Faria, Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival co-founder, said the awards are meant to recognize both the depth of creativity and flavour in all the food trucks.

“Many of the trucks are operated by red seal chefs and many crazy “foodprenuers” that are passionate about food and unique twists,” Faria told the Clovedale Reporter.

Many of the awards are one-of-a-kind. He said the Best Meat Sweats award encompasses both quality and quantity and throws in a generous portion of  “uniqueness” in that it also measures the amount of sweat dripping off someone’s forehead after eating it.

“(It’s) about the feeling after sitting down at a BBQ and finishing your plate and being so full you can’t move, but reaching for another rack of ribs,” Faria added. “You haven’t moved in hours but for some reason you’re just dripping sweat out of satisfaction.”

Rachel Keith, marketing director for the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival, told the Reporter Best Meat Sweats was created to celebrate impressive, meat-focused offerings.

“Our designated "Meat Sweats" judge scours the festival for the menu item that scores highest in the following categories: taste, presentation, quality, value and innovation.”

Last year's winner, GuerillaQ (pictured) captured first place with their Pork Belly Buster Sandwich.

New this year will be an award called “Best New Food” which “brings together inspired chefs creations, the wacky, wild and weird!”

The food fest will also welcome back out-of-towners OgoPogo Mac N Cheese, "as well as returning winning favourites such as Dos Amigos (People's Choice Winner 2024), Crema Ice Cream & Desserts (Best Sweet Treat 2024), and Bao Buns (Best in Show 2024),” the release noted.

Food Truck Wars will roll onto the Cloverdale Fairgrounds on Friday, April 11, and run until Sunday, April 13. Hours: April 11, 3 - 9 p.m., April 12, 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., and April 13, 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Advanced tickets are available by donation, with partial proceeds being given to the organization's 2025 charity partner.
