John Beuhler 鈥檚 comedic prowess has earned him spots opening for industry legends such as Dennis Miller, Joan Rivers, Martin Short, Brent Butt and Craig Ferguson.
The stand-up star's style has been described as "a blend of bold commentary and thought-provoking humour, evoking a Woody Allen-esque connection with his audience."
This month, local fans will get to see the White Rock born-and-raised comedian's return to his hometown as he headlines a comedy showcase at the Oceana PARC Playhouse (1532 Johnston Rd.) Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.
The show, part of the Yuk Yuk's regular comedy season, follows a show Friday night at 8 p.m. at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (32315 South Fraser Way) in Abbotsford.
鈥淛ohn Beuhler is one of the sharpest and most original comedic voices Canada has produced," said Garry Yuill, Yuk Yuk鈥檚 media producer.
"We鈥檙e thrilled to bring his talent back to the local stage where his journey began 鈥 these shows are going to be an unforgettable experience for comedy fans.鈥
Renowned for his razor-sharp wit, Beuhler, born at Peace Arch Hospital and a Semiahmoo Secondary graduate, had a meteoric rise from class clown to national comedy headliner after bursting onto the national comedy scene at just 19 years old.
By the time he was 25, his knack for delivering fearless, poignant, and wickedly funny performances had already garnered him a national CTV Comedy channel special, won the Just for Laughs Homegrown Comedy Competition, and placed him in the finals of the Seattle International Comedy Competition.
Beuhler鈥檚 latest comedy special, distributed by LA鈥檚 Comedy Dynamics, has been receiving rave reviews since its October release, and he鈥檚 already at work on a bigger, more ambitious follow-up.
The upcoming White Rock show, however, holds special significance for the comedian, in bringing him back to his roots.
Known for jumping off the iconic White Rock pier and cruising Marine Drive in search of parties as a teen, returning to the Johnston Road playhouse marks a full-circle moment in his career, he acknowledged.
鈥淧erforming in these two shows, especially in White Rock, feels like coming home in every way," he said.
"These intimate shows are about connecting with people and sharing laughter, and there鈥檚 no better place to do that than the town that shaped me.鈥
Joining Beuhler as host for the evening will be acclaimed Vancouver-based comedian and actress Larke Miller (CBS' The Late Late Show).
Rising star Harris Anderson (SiriusXM Radio), will kick off the show with his signature blend of observational humour and charm.
