A Canadian folk legend is set to make his return to Harrison Hot Springs.
The Harrison Festival Society recently announced that Valdy will perform as part of the 2024-2025 Season of Performing Arts, set to play on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Hall (290 Esplanade Ave.)
The Marc Atkinson Trio was originally set for Jan. 11, but they will instead perform during the annual Harrison Festival of the Arts in July 2025.
Valdy's performance kicked off the 2021 Season of Performing Arts at the Agassiz Agricultural Hall. Born Valdemar Horsal in Ottawa, Valdy has spent more than three decades honing his craft on the Canadian folk music scene. He is a singer, songwriter and instrumentalist perhaps best known for his song "Play me a Rock and Roll Song," a song recalling his concert in Aldergrove in the late 60s before an especially raucous crowd.
Valdy has sold nearly 500,000 copes of a total of 13 albums and has won two Juno awards (Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year), has been nominated for Junos seven times and has achieved four gold albums.
Tickets for the Valdy concert are $28.50 for adults and free of charge for children under the age of 12. They are expected to go fast and are currently available online at harrisonfestival.com, by phone at 604-796-3664 or in-person at the Ranger Station Art Gallery, located at 98 Rockwell Dr. Tickets may be available at the door, depending on availability.
Now in its 36th season, the Harrison Festival Society's Season of Performing Arts runs September through May every year and typically consists of eight to 10 performances. February's performance will feature self-described roots/Americana artist Charlie A'Court.
