Internationally-acclaimed Ukrainian concert pianist Anna Sagalova is returning for another show in Delta next month, this time backed by a 22-piece string orchestra.
Following her near-sellout solo performance at a Ukraine benefit concert at Lighthouse Church last year, Sagalova is returning to the Ladner venue on Sunday, May 5 to 鈥渃aptivate audiences with her profound musicality and exceptional artistry,鈥 according to an event press release.
This time, Sagalova will be accompanied by the Harmonia Ensemble with conductor Nicholas Urquhart to performing Beethoven鈥檚 Piano Concerto No. 4, several Ukrainian compositions, Serenade For String Orchestra No. 3 by Robert Fuchs and the Ukrainian national anthem.
鈥淭he collaboration with Harmonia Ensemble string orchestra promises to deliver an unforgettable musical experience, blending Sagalova鈥檚 emotive performance with the lush string textures of Harmonia,鈥 the press release states.
A concert pianist, educator and producer with two albums to her name, Sagalova fled Kharkiv in the early weeks of Russia鈥檚 invasion of Ukraine and arrived in Vancouver in the summer of 2022, according to a bio accompanying the event press release.
Described as 鈥渁 brilliant pianist with a great vitality鈥 by Vancouver International School of Music director Eugene Skovorodnikov, Sagalova is a laureate of a number of competitions in Italy, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Canada and Germany, and was granted the status of Honored Artist of Ukraine by former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko for her achievements and contributions to Ukrainian culture.
Harmonia Ensemble is 鈥渁 dynamic string orchestra that collaborates with leading musicians such as founder and viola player Tony Lee, concertmaster Dominic Woo and conductor Nicholas Urquhart to present memorable classical music performances,鈥 according to their bio. 鈥淭heir focus on rich, expressive playing has garnered them widespread acclaim.鈥
