There鈥檚 a certain serenity that comes with stepping into a car for the first time where everything just feels like home. Uncomplicated, despite the underlying complex technology.

There鈥檚 a certain serenity that comes with stepping into a car for the first time where everything just feels like home.

Uncomplicated, despite the underlying complex technology. Comfortable, thanks to countless hours spent fine-tuning every minuscule detail. Safe, courtesy of the expertise of passionate engineers. While this philosophy is evident throughout Infiniti's lineup, it holds particularly true for the 2025 QX60 Black Edition.

Sliding into its pristinely finished cabin, I was greeted by a spacious interior with room for seven in a 2/3/2 configuration. Though I鈥檓 biased in declaring the captain鈥檚 seat as the best, my passengers, especially those riding shotgun, were equally thrilled with Infiniti鈥檚 zero gravity front seats. Designed to promote correct posture and reduce fatigue, these seats are a genuine treat, whether you鈥檙e on a quick errand or a long road trip. And for those who spend a lot of time commuting, these seats are, pardon the pun, out of this world.

Passengers behind the front row won鈥檛 feel shortchanged either. With 957mm of legroom in the second row and 712mm in the third, the QX60 accommodates families and groups with ease. Having climbed back into the third row, I can attest to its functionality for adults. As a slightly above average height woman, I didn鈥檛 feel cramped for the time I sat back there 鈥 a somewhat rarity in three-row SUVs. Kids, of course, found it even more delightful. The second-row seats鈥 ability to tilt and slide for third-row access, even with a child safety seat installed, adds a layer of practicality that families will appreciate.

The serenity I felt upon first entering the QX60 extended to the driving experience, thanks to the thoughtful design of its dashboard and centre stack. What I found particularly convenient was how they were laid out. Drivers are greeted by a 12.3-inch touchscreen (where one can pick their favourite tunes) mixed with the right amount of smartly integrated physical buttons (found beneath the touchscreen), which made navigating and familiarizing myself a no-brainer. A harmonious balance of modern and intuitive.

That way, those who want to control the climate, change the radio station, or turn the volume up or down, don鈥檛 have to go through the touchscreen. And even with my favourite music flooding the spacious interior through the 17-speaker Bose sound system, it felt like a calm oasis in the sea of congestion and rush-hour chaos.

Stepping outside, the Black Edition distinguishes itself with gloss-black 20-inch wheels, roof rails, grille surround and exterior badging. Additional touches include an illuminated Infiniti emblem, kick plates, and welcome lighting. The Harbor Grey Pearl paint, a $750 add-on, further enhances the SUV鈥檚 bold and sophisticated presence.

Under the hood, the 2025 QX60 Black Edition houses a 2.0L VC-turbo engine, delivering 268 horsepower and 286 lb-ft of torque 鈥 an upgrade of 16 lb-ft over the 2024 model. Furthermore, it leaves behind the previous V6 engine iteration for the two fewer cylinders.

Paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters and a shift-by-wire gear selector, the SUV offers customizable driving modes, including Personal, Sport, Auto, Eco and Snow. Though I stuck primarily to 鈥淎uto鈥 during my Whistler, B.C., adventure, the vehicle handled everything from steep ascents along the North Shore to winding highways with remarkable ease.

Despite its 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the QX60鈥檚 performance is anything but sluggish, even when tasked with its 2,085kg curb weight. It climbed elevations with pep and confidence, proving itself as both capable and efficient. There is quite a lot of pep in its step when wanting to accelerate the ascents found along the North Shore, up the 99 North toward Whistler, or in various parts of the Lower Mainland where elevation gain was very prominent.

In practical application, the QX60 Black Edition has an estimated city of 8.8L/100km and highway 10.9L/100km, with a combined fuel economy of 10L/100km, which in reality, was very close to my results of 10.7L/100km, with a lot of elevation gained. And whether you鈥檙e loading the QX60 up with people or things, there is plenty of space inside. The cargo capacity behind second row, when the third row is folded down is 1,178L and with the third row upright is 411L.

The 2025 Infiniti QX60 Black Edition is a refined, family-friendly SUV that combines luxury, functionality and performance. From its thoughtfully designed interior and cutting-edge technology to its robust yet efficient engine, this vehicle delivers a driving experience that feels both serene and charismatic.

Whether you鈥檙e navigating city streets or winding mountain highways, the QX60 proves itself as an ideal companion, ready to handle whatever the journey demands.

The base MSRP of the 2025 Infiniti QX60 Black Edition starts at $66,645. The price as tested, including the optional paint and deliver charges (excluding taxes) is $69,890.
